Edit for accuracy and consistency in spelling, punctuation, hyphenation, capitalization, and grammar.

Check for consistency in the use of numerals, abbreviations, alphabetical or numerical lists, and italics.

Edit to improve the overall flow (paragraph transitions, etc.), which may include suggestions for revisions and/or clarification that is needed.

Edit for consistency of in-text citations and end-of-chapter references.

Verify that graphics, art, and text correspond.

Ensure agreement of table of contents entries with headings in the text.

Identify and query sexist or biased language and dated references.

Ensure that headings within each chapter are parallel in construction, number, and frequency.

If requested, verify the accuracy of URLs.

If requested, verify and/or format references.

Check formatting of headings and subheads for consistency.

Check formatting of table elements (column and row headings, number alignment, use of symbols, footnote numbers, dollar signs, etc.).

Verify proper nouns.

Review the document for consistency in language and  formatting.

Update or create a style sheet detailing treatment of special terms, acronyms, spelling, etc.
